In a dramatic escalation following India’s retaliatory military action under Operation Sindoor, Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief Masood Azhar has released a statement claiming that 14 people—including 10 members of his own family and 4 close aides—were killed in Indian airstrikes on his residence and madrassa in Bahawalpur, Pakistan.
“Four Innocent Children, My Sister, and Scholars Killed,” Says Azhar in Grief-Laden Letter
In an emotionally charged message, Azhar acknowledged the deaths of his sister, her husband, their children, and other relatives. He referred to the deceased as “Allah’s beloved guests” and claimed they were blessed with martyrdom. His letter further mentioned:
“Five were innocent children… My beloved elder sister and her respected husband, my scholarly nephew and niece, and two dear companions… All fourteen are fortunate martyrs… surely alive and honored by Allah.”
Despite the heavy loss, Azhar showed no remorse for his organization’s terror activities. Instead, he blamed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for targeting innocent women and children, calling him a “coward.” He vowed that JeM’s response would be fierce and unforgettable.
Pakistan Content Creator Claims Indian Strike Hit Azhar's Madrassa
The claim was further backed by a Pakistani content creator who posted a video alleging that India directly targeted Masood Azhar’s madrassa, located in Bahawalpur, the same area where the JeM leader resides. Pakistan’s local media also reported that 14 individuals were killed in the strike.
Operation Sindoor: India’s Firm Response to Pahalgam Attack
Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, where several Indian soldiers lost their lives. India targeted multiple terror infrastructure sites inside Pakistan, including alleged Jaish-e-Mohammad bases, in a calibrated airstrike.
While the Indian government has yet to officially confirm Azhar’s losses, the messaging from JeM circles and Pakistani local sources has intensified the significance of Operation Sindoor. The development also marks one of the most direct hits against the leadership of a major terror outfit operating from Pakistani soil.
As the situation remains tense, global reactions continue to pour in. While Israel supported India's right to self-defense, China expressed regret and called for restraint from both India and Pakistan.
