Mamata Banerjee: In a phone call to her counterpart in Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee voiced her support for the DMK’s efforts to combat the “undemocratic functioning” of governors in non-BJP states. The chief minister of Tamil Nadu claimed that Banerjee had proposed convening a meeting of all the opposition-ruled state chief ministers to decide the next step.
Resolution attempting to set a deadline for governors to sign off on state bills
M.K.Stalin Tweeted, “Hon WB CM @MamataOfficial spoke to me over phone to express her solidarity & admiration for our initiatives against the undemocratic functioning of Governors in non-BJP ruled states & suggested that all the Opposition CMs meet to decide the next course of action.” Stalin had written to the chief ministers of states with non-BJP dispensations urging them to follow suit in their respective states after the Tamil Nadu Assembly recently passed a resolution attempting to set a deadline for governors to sign off on state bills.

Cooperative federalism is increasingly being lost-Stalin
Before Mamata Banerjee, Stalin was spoken to by the chief ministers of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, and Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal. Stalin said in his letter that the current state of Indian democracy “stands at a crossroads” and that “cooperative federalism is increasingly being lost.” Vijayan said his government will take Stalin’s proposal “extremely seriously” while Kejriwal stated his government will do so during the upcoming Assembly session.
