Mother's day

On Mother’s Day 2025, while most celebrate with gifts and gratitude, some mothers are left holding only memories—mothers who lost their sons in the Pahalgam terror attack. Their words cut deep into the nation’s heart, reminding us of the cost of peace and freedom.

Shubham Dwivedi’s Mother: 'Had the horseman said there was no network, my son would still be alive’

Shubham had gone to Pahalgam with his wife for their honeymoon. Newly married, they had no idea tragedy awaited them. His mother recalls, “We were on our way up the hill. I asked Shubham if he’d come back down. He asked the horseman, ‘Bhaiya, is there network up there?’ The horseman said yes, so Shubham went up. If the answer had been no, he would’ve come down with me—and he would’ve lived.”

Her voice quivers as she says, “He fulfilled all my dreams during his wedding, only to leave us forever days later. He was so protective—when I’d fall ill, he’d take care of everything without complaint. And now, I only have his memories.”

Vinay Narwal’s Mother: 'Mom, someday even I will come home wrapped in the tricolor'

Lieutenant Vinay Narwal’s mother remembered a chilling childhood statement he once made: “Mom, one day I will come back wrapped in the tricolor.” She says, “We used to think he was joking or being emotional. But he meant it. After completing his B.Tech in Computer Science, we asked him to pursue a private job. But he insisted—‘No, Mom, I want to join the Navy. That’s my dream.’”

She now lives with his memories—each corner of the house, each object, every silence brings him back.

A Mother's Grief, A Nation’s Pride

While the world celebrates Mother’s Day with flowers and joy, these mothers hold onto the pride of raising sons who gave their all. Their sacrifice is a reminder: as long as terrorism exists, the fight against it will continue—and behind every soldier, there's a family that pays the ultimate price.
