Goddess Durga followers worship Maa Shailputri on the first day of the nine-day Navratri festival and ask for her blessings for their families' welfare. They do Ghatasthapana or Kalash Sthapana to start the auspicious occasion. A pot is placed in a sacred area of the house during the Ghatasthapana puja, and a lamp is kept burning inside for nine days. It is one of the important Navratri rites.
In a pan with water added, mud and navadhanya seeds are also added. The water is added to with a kalasha that contains Ganga Jal, some coins, supari, and akshat (raw rice and turmeric powder). The Kalash is surrounded by five mango leaves, which are then covered in coconut. After that, worshippers need to set up an oil lamp, incense, flowers, fruits, and sweets next to Maa Shailputri. After that, you need to offer a special bhog created from Desi ghee.
