Navratri 2022: The name Navratri comes from Sanskrit and means "nine nights" (Nava means Nine and ratri mean night). The festival is very significant to Maa Durga worshipers. In the Vedas and Puranas, Goddess Durga is described to as Shakti's form, guarding the universe against demons. Navratri also commemorates the triumph of good over evil, when the goddess Durga, formed by merging the energies of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, slew the demon ruler Mahishasura.

Navratri is observed four times a year, in the months of Chaitra (spring), Sharad (autumn), Magha (winter), and Ashadha (monsoon). Throughout the country, nine manifestations of Shakti (also known as Navdurga) are worshipped during this nine-night festival. Every day is dedicated to a different incarnation of the deity.

When is Navratri 2022 Muhurat?

Shardiya Navratri will begin on Monday, September 26 and end on Wednesday, October 5, according to the Hindu calendar.

Ghatasthapana Muhurta or Kalash Sthapna Muhurta- September 26 from 6.09 a.m. to 7.48 a.m.

Abhijit Muhurta - September 26th, 11:46 a.m. - 12:34 p.m.

Throughout the country, nine manifestations of Shakti (also known as Navdurga) are worshipped during this nine-night festival. Every day is dedicated to a different incarnation of the deity.

Goddesses and their days:

Navratri 2022 Day 1 (Sept. 26):

Navratri begins on Day with the Ghatsthapna and worship of Goddess Shailputri. She represents the combined strength of Mahesh, Vishnu, and Brahma.

Navratri 2022 Day 2 (Sept. 27):

Goddess Brahmacharini Devi is worshipped on this day. The devotee of asceticism. She is blissful and bestows happiness, serenity, wealth, and grace to all believers who worship her. She is believed to be the path to liberation or moksha, as she is filled with love and happiness.

Navratri 2022 Day 3 (Sept. 28):

The goddess Chandraghanta is worshipped on this day. She is worshipped on the third day for peace, serenity, and success in life, and she signifies beauty and elegance. She is a tremendous warrior and an apostle of bravery.

Navratri 2022 Day 4 (Sept. 29):

Goddess Kushmanda is worshipped on the fourth day.  She is regarded as the universe's creator. It is believed that Kushmunda created the universe with laughing and made it lush with greenery.

Navratri 2022 Day 5 (Sept. 30):

Goddess Skandmata is worshipped on the fifth day. She is the mother of Skanda, or Karthikeya, the gods' chosen commander-in-chief in the fight against the demons. Skanda in his newborn formcan be seen accompanying her.

Navratri 2022 Day 6 (Oct. 1):

On this day,  Goddess Katyayani is worshipped. Katyayani was born as an incarnation of Durga to the great sage Kata.

Navratri 2022 Day 7 (Oct. 2):

Goddess Kalratri is worshipped on the seventh day.  She has a dark complexion, unkempt hair, and a strong demeanour. She is as dark as the goddess Kali. She is the fiercest manifestation of the goddess Durga. She has three blazing eyes and flames radiating from her breath.

Navratri 2022 Day 8 (Oct. 3):

Durga Ashtami is celebrated by worshipping Goddess Mahagauri. Maha Gauri is wise, gentle, and quiet. It is reported that her colour changed from white to black because to her long austerities in the deep forests of the Himalayas. However, once Shiva cleansed her with Ganga waters, her body recovered its beauty, and she became known as Maha Gauri, which means "very white."

Navratri 2022 Day 9 (Oct. 4):

This is the day when the fast is broken and Goddess Siddhidhatri is honoured. She possesses miraculous healing abilities. She has four arms and is constantly in a positive mood. As a manifestation of the mother goddess, she blesses all gods, saints, yogis, tantriks, and followers. The goddess is depicted in a joyful state.

Navratri 2022 Day 10 (Oct. 5):

The idols of Goddess Durga are submerged in water. Followers celebrate Dussehra.
