Navratri 2023

Navratri 2023 Day 1: In 2023, Shardiya Navratri will commence on Sunday, October 15th, and continue through Tuesday, October 24th. This festival signifies the arrival of Goddess Durga on Earth, and over the course of these nine days, adherents engage in worship, prayers, and the offering of special foods to honour the nine avatars of Goddess Durga.

Navratri 2023 begins with its first day (Prathama), dedicated to the worship of Maa Shailputri, the first form of Hindu goddess Durga. This day, known as Ghatasthapana or Kalash Sthapana, is when devotees establish a sacred vessel (Kalash) to seek blessings from Goddess Durga. Homes are adorned, and Goddess Shailputri is worshipped through traditional rituals and mantra chants. Throughout the nine-day celebration, daily puja ceremonies are conducted for all nine avatars of Maa Vaishnodevi, commencing with the worship of Mata Shailputri on the first day of Navratri.

Navratri 2023 Day 1: Significance

The first day of Navratri holds profound religious significance as it marks the initiation of the festival’s celebrations, dedicated to the worship of Goddess Shailputri. Also known as Goddess Parvati, she is the daughter of King Himalaya and Mother Maina. Riding a bull with a flower in her left hand and a trident in her right, she possesses divine powers associated with Lord Shiva, Lord Brahma, and Lord Vishnu, while also governing the planet Moon. Maa Shailputri is linked to the control of the Root Chakra. These auspicious Navratri days inspire devotees to worship day and night in their earnest efforts to please the Goddess, and those who offer prayers with devotion and dedication receive her blessings.

Navratri 2023 Day 1: Bhog

On the first day of Navratri 2023, it is customary to offer prasad made with Desi Ghee.

Navratri 2023 Day 1: Puja Vidhi & Rituals

To seek blessings of Goddess Durga and seek her presence in the Kalash for the nine days of Navratri, follow these steps:

  1. Kalash: Begin by requesting Goddess Durga to accept your prayers and reside in the Kalash for the duration of Navratri.
  2. Offering of Diya and Dhoop: Light a Diya (oil lamp) and Dhoop (incense) near the Kalash to purify the surroundings and create a sacred atmosphere.
  3. Offer Flowers and Scents: Present fresh flowers and fragrant scents to the Kalash as a gesture of worship and devotion.
  4. Offering of Fruits and Sweets: Offer a selection of fruits and sweets to the Kalash as devotion, symbolizing the abundance and blessings you seek.
  5. Recitation of Maa Shailputri Puja Mantras: Chant the Maa Shailputri Puja Mantras, focusing your mind and heart on the Goddess, seeking her blessings and guidance.
  6. Maa Shailputri Aarti: Conclude the first step of the puja by reciting the Maa Shailputri Aarti, a song of devotion and praise to the Goddess.

This ritual is a way to connect with Goddess Shailputri and begin the Navratri celebrations with deep devotion and spirituality.
