The second day of Navratri is dedicated to the devotion of Mata Brahmacharini, Know auspicious timings, significance, puja rituals, colour, and the mantras and offerings (bhog) associated with her worship.

Navratri 2023 Day 2: Mata Brahmacharini, worshipped on the second day of Navratri, is known for her unwavering commitment, selflessness, simplicity, compassion, strength, and preservance. According to ancient scriptures, Devi Brahmacharini is showed holding a prayer bead in her right hand and a Kamandalam (water pot) in her left, dressed in a white saree. She symbolises harmony and righteousness and is believed to bring good fortune, overseeing Lord Mangal according to Hindu texts. This form of Goddess Parvati, who was initially known as Devi Sati, underwent extensive penance before uniting with Lord Shiva. Her resolute dedication, asceticism, and celibacy led to her being referred to as Maa Brahmacharini.

Navratri 2023 Day 2: Signficance

The belief holds that Goddess Brahmacharini oversees Lord Mangal, the bestower of all fortunes, and those who worship Maa Brahmacharini receive blessings of peace and joy. Devotees turn to her to request guidance for a life marked by virtue and discipline, making offerings of flowers, fruits, sweets, and the recitation of her mantras.

Navratri 2023 Day 2: Pooja Vidhi

  • Devotees make offerings of jasmine flowers, rice, and sandalwood to the idols of the deities.
  • As part of the rituals, it is customary to offer bhog consisting of milk, curd, honey, and sugar.
  • To conclude the Puja, an Aarti is performed, and sincere prayers are offered to Mata Brahmacharini.
  • During the pooja, she is particularly honored with her beloved jasmine flowers.

Navratri 2023 Day 2: Bhog

The traditional bhog offered to Goddess Brahmacharini is jaggery. Jaggery is a form of sugar derived from sugarcane juice and symbolises purity and simplicity, qualities closely associated with Maa Brahmacharini.

Other items such as fruits such as Apples, Bananas, and Orange, as well as sweets like laddu, barfi, and Gulab jamun. Additionally, kheer (a type of rice pudding) and halwa (a sweet dish made from semolina) are commonly presented as offerings. Along with these food offerings, devotees may also include flowers, incense, and candles as part of their worship.

Navratri 2023 Day 2: Colour Of The Day

On the second day of Navratri, the colour associated is white, symbolising the presence of Goddess Brahmacharini. White is a representation of righteousness, justice, as well as purity and innocence.

Navratri 2023 Day 2: Fasting Diet

Breakfast: This morning meal includes Sabudana Khichdi, Kuttu Paratha served with yogurt and chutney, and a refreshing Fruit Salad with Makhana.

Lunch: For the midday meal, you can indulge in Kuttu Pulao paired with Aloo Jeera and Raita, Samak Chawal Khichdi along with Chana Masala, and Sabudana Thalipeeth complemented by Curd and Chutney.

Dinner: Evening offerings consist of Kuttu Puri with Aloo ki Sabzi, followed by Kheer. Alternatively, you can savor Samak Chawal Pulao accompanied by Chana Masala and Raita. Also, Sabudana Khichdi is paired with Makhana and Rajgira Ki Puri to complete the dinner options.

Snacks: Throughout the day, you can enjoy light snacks such as Makhana, Sabudana Vada, Roasted Nuts, and a delightful Fruit Salad.
