New Delhi: No petrol, diesel without pollution certificates at petrol pumps from 25 October

New Delhi: The Delhi government has decided to control pollution so they decided to make pollution certificates or PUCs (Pollution Under Control Certificates) mandatory to buy petrol and diesel from petrol pumps across the national capital from October 25. Official notification is awaited, state environment minister Gopal Rai told about this information.  The move of the state government is to reduce pollution during winter.

Public notice was issued in March 2021 to seek suggestions

Vehicular pollution is a much concern in Delhi, especially during the time of winters. The government deployed teams to check pollution certificate, a large section of people are not renewing PUCs. Polluted smoke pushes the AQI index to very poor category. According the government, this move has been in waiting since March 2021. A public notice was issued in March 2021 to seek suggestions from the citizens. Apart from normal people, suggestions were taken in different departments into account before framing the policy.

The petrol pump association suggested that if PUC is made mandatory for petrol and diesel then the situation can be worse. Based on this, the Environment Department directed all the departments to find a solution. All the departments are requested to submit a plan within a week. After this, the Delhi government will issue the notification for the policy. And after  the notification, drivers without pollution certificates will not get petrol or diesel at the petrol pumps.
