New era? Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese embarks on four-day visit to India, trade and cricket top agenda

New Delhi: Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese has embarked on his four day visit to India, beginning from the 8th of March to the 11th of March. The visit is already historic, since it’s the first time an Australian PM is visiting India in six years. After the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA)’s implementation in December the last year, the visit is very significant. As per the reports, the major points of his visit include trade, tourism, and also cricket.

What is on cards from the visit

The Ministry of External Affairs has informed that Albanese will be accompanied by a high-level business delegation, as well as the Minister for Trade and Tourism, Senator Don Farell, and the Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, Madeleine King.

Just before his visit, Anthony posted on Twitter, “Today I’m bringing a delegation of ministers and business leaders to India. At the kind invitation of PM Narendra Modi, we’ll be visiting Ahmedabad, Mumbai and New Delhi.” He concluded by saying, “We have an historic opportunity to strengthen our relationship with India, at a time of extraordinary growth and dynamism in our region.”

India and Australia ties in clean energy

Significant investments are expected to be made in Australia’s rare earth sector as a result of the planned visit of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to India. The Australian government and business community have backed the sector, which is likely to attract significant investment from KABIL, a state-run Indian mining company. India and Australia have taken action to cooperate on renewable energy technology since they have a common interest in clean energy, including the signing of a Memorandum of Intent on New and Renewable Energy.

Both the Prime Ministers will also watch the first day of the fourth test match between India and Australia that will take place at Narendra Modi Stadium on the 9th of March.
