The Indian Railways is set to launch a next-generation Passenger Reservation System (PRS) by the end of this year, aiming to revolutionize ticketing speed and user convenience. According to the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the new system will be capable of generating over 1.5 lakh tickets per minute, a significant leap from the existing capacity of 32,000 tickets per minute.
The revamped PRS is not just about speed — it's also focused on passenger convenience and inclusivity. The Indian Railways plans to make the entire reservation platform multilingual, making it easier for people across linguistic backgrounds to book tickets in their preferred language.
Advanced Charting to Minimize Uncertainty
To reduce travel-related uncertainty, the Ministry of Railways is also introducing advanced charting of waitlisted tickets. For trains departing before 2 PM, the final reservation chart will now be prepared by 9 PM the previous day. This move will give passengers more time to confirm, reschedule, or cancel their travel plans, particularly those stuck on the waitlist.
How This Will Help You:
Faster Bookings During Peak Hours: No more failed bookings due to server overload during Tatkal or festive rush.
Waitlist Clarity: Early chart preparation gives passengers more time to plan alternatives.
Language Access: Booking in local languages will make the system more user-friendly.
Smart Ticketing Experience: Aligns with India’s broader digital modernization goals.
With this initiative, Indian Railways is gearing up to offer a seamless, efficient, and smarter reservation system, reducing stress for millions of passengers daily and setting a new benchmark in global rail service technology.
