The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched a unique cleanliness initiative titled ‘Clean Toilet Picture Challenge’ under the Government of India’s Special Campaign 5.0. The drive encourages users of national highways to report unclean toilets at toll plazas, promoting greater public participation in maintaining hygiene and sanitation standards.
How the Challenge Works
Highway users can participate by uploading geo-tagged pictures of dirty toilets through the latest version of the Rajmargyatra app. Participants are required to provide their name, location, vehicle registration number, and mobile number while submitting the report.
As an incentive, each vehicle registration number (VRN) reporting a valid instance of an unclean toilet will receive a reward of ₹1,000 in the form of a FASTag recharge. The challenge will remain open until 31st October 2025, covering all National Highways across India.
Promoting Cleanliness and Citizen Involvement
The Clean Toilet Picture Challenge aligns with the broader goals of Special Campaign 5.0, which focuses on cleanliness, transparency, and efficiency in governance. Through this citizen-driven model, NHAI aims to ensure better maintenance of highway amenities and enhance the travel experience for commuters.
NHAI officials emphasized that the campaign reflects the government’s continued commitment to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’s vision, combining technology and public engagement to drive accountability.
The authority has urged all National Highway users to take part in the initiative, highlighting that “Your click can make a difference.”
With this innovative approach, the NHAI seeks to set a new standard in public facility management, ensuring cleaner, safer, and more traveler-friendly highways across the nation.
