NIA moves SC against bail to Anand Teltumbde by Bombay HC

The agency National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the bail granted to Anand Teltumbde, accused in the Bhima Koregaon case. The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the petition soon and the matter will be heard on Friday.

Hearing on 25 November

In fact, SG Tushar Mehta, appearing for NIA, demanded an early hearing of the case. On which CJI DY Chandrachud said that he can do the hearing today itself. Mehta urged that the hearing be held on Thursday. CJI said that he will hear on 25 November.
Significantly, on November 18, the Bombay High Court granted bail to Anand Teltumbde, accused in the Bhima Koregaon case.

He has been granted bail on a bond of Rs one lakh. But the High Court has stayed this order for a week. So that the NIA probing the matter can approach the Supreme Court. This means that Teltumbde will not be able to walk out of jail till then.

Anand Teltumbde was arrested in April 2020

Former IIT professor Anand Teltumbde was arrested in April 2020. At present he is lodged in Taloja Jail of Navi Mumbai. It was said in the petition that he was not present in the program of Elgar Parishad organized in Pune on 31 December 2017 and he did not give any provocative speech.
