NMC approves 50 medical colleges, total seats set to cross 1 lakh

The National Medical Commission (NMC) had cleared the way for the opening of 50 new medical colleges this year. With this, about eight thousand MBBS seats will increase in these medical colleges. Union Ministry of Health gave this information and told that this year 8195 medical seats that is MBBS seats will increase. Thirty of these colleges will be government run, that is, they will be government and the rest will be private institutes.

Most medical colleges will open in this state

In this regard, the officials of the ministry further told that the 50 medical colleges which have been approved will be opened in different states and the maximum number of colleges will be opened in the state of Telangana. Maximum and total 13 medical colleges will be opened in Telangana. The rest of the medical colleges are distributed among 15 states.

After Telangana, the maximum number of medical colleges will be opened in Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh. Five medical colleges each will be opened at both the places. The list of other states which will have medical colleges is as follows – Odisha, Gujarat, West Bengal, Assam, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Admission will be available on so many seats

According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry in the year 2022-23, at present there are a total of 654 medical colleges operating in the country and there are 99,763 MBBS seats. However, now the number of MBBS seats will increase and now candidates will get admission on 1,07,658 MBBS seats.

Some time ago the recognition of many medical colleges has also been cancelled. Some of these colleges have also appealed to the ministry to reconsider this decision, keeping their stand. This will benefit the students and now about 8,000 students will get a chance to study MBBS as compared to earlier because admission can be taken on more seats.
