No NRC plan for now, 5 months for CAA: Central Govt in Lok Sabha

The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) may take five more months to come into the effect, the Central government told Parliament on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has told the Lok Sabha that the laws are still being constructed, and an extension had been approved by the Committees on Subordinate Legislation for both houses of the Parliament.

The Lok Sabha has granted the government the time for an extension till April 9, while the Rajya Sabha panel has extended the deadline till July 9.

The Union government also clarified in Rajya Sabha that no decision has been taken over the National Register of Citizens NRC yet.
