‘No Permanence!’ Congress Leader Pawan Khera Defends I.N.D.I.A’s Non-Cooperation Stance Amid Media Clash

As the discussion over press freedom and non-cooperation continues, the I.N.D.I. alliance explains its position amid a media stalemate by rejecting terms like "boycott" and "ban."

Pawan Khera

Congress: The Congress party has stated that the I.N.D.I. alliance leaders’ decision to skip 14 anchors’ programmes is not a “permanent” call, which has sparked controversy. Party leader Pawan Khera referred to the decision as a “non-cooperation movement” and rejected the labels “boycott,” “blacklist,” and “ban.” The opposition has made the decision to not work with anyone who is “spreading hatred in the society,” he added, adding that the coalition has not barred anyone.

Congress Leader Rejects ‘Ban’ Labels

“We have not banned, boycotted or blacklisted anyone. This is a non-cooperation movement, we will not cooperate with anyone spreading hatred in the society…They are not our enemies,” he said while responding to the question that BJP has said ‘rather than the media, the opposition should ban Rahul Gandhi‘. He said if the media anchors “realise what they were doing is not good for India, they will again start attending their shows as nothing is permanent”.

BJP Shares Controversial Image, Labels I.N.D.I. Alliance ‘Threat to Democracy’

The BJP posted a picture of Rahul Gandhi and former prime minister Indira Gandhi abusing and obstructing the press on X, formerly known as Twitter. “I.N.D.I. Alliance is a threat to democracy!” the caption read. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, pointed to the emergency that existed under previous prime minister Indira Gandhi’s administration when he remarked that “boycott and media censorship can be traced back to 1975.”
