Odisha: 63 chickens killed due to loud DJ music

In an unprecedented case, a man in Odisha’s Balasore registered a complaint against his neighbours for playing loud music during a wedding alleging that it caused the death of 63 chickens at his broiler farm. The complaint has been lodged in Nilagiri police station.

Ranjit Parida, the poultary farm owner, resident of Kandagaradi village, claimed that his chickens died of suspected heart attacks brought on by the blaring music played by the DJ at his neighbour Ramachandra Parida’s wedding procession.

The wedding procession with a DJ band passed in front of his farm at around 11.30 pm on Sunday. As the DJ neared his farm, the chickens started behaving oddly, some even started jumping and hissing, which led to the death of 63 chickens.

Despite Ranjit’s repeated requests to the DJ to lower the volume, the allegedly “ear-splitting music” played on.

Balasore Police SP Sudhanshu Mishra said that Nilagiri police station has received a complaint in this regard. “The charges were being verified. However, the issue has been settled by both parties amicably at the police station,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ramachandra Parida ridiculed the allegations as hogwash, and countered it by saying, “When lakhs of chickens are transported on the road on daily basis amid blaring horns, how is it possible that the birds in his farm died due to DJ music? However, after he came to me and complained about the loud noise, we lowered the volume.”
