Onam 2022: Wishes, Greeting & Images to Share on this Festival

Onam 2022: Onam, a yearly harvest festival commemorated by the Malayalee community both inside and outside Kerala, memorialises King Mahabali’s annual return, who is thought to be the decedent of Kashyapa, a Brahmin sage and ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu.

People participate in a variety of activities such as Atthachamayam (folk songs and dance), Pulikali (tiger dances), Vallam Kali (boat races), Onathappan (worship), Pookkalam (flower Rangoli), Tug of War, Onam Kali, Kummattikali (mask dance), Thumbi Thullal (women’s dance), Onavillu (music), Onathallu (martial arts), Onapottan (costumes) and Kazhchakkula (plantain offerings).

It occurs on the 22nd nakshatra Thiruvonam in the Malayalam month of Chingam. The festival this year start on Tuesday, August 30, and it will conclude on Thursday, September 8.

Also Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu greeted people and extended their best wishes on the occasion of Onam on Thursday via their social media accounts.
