In a joint statement from the previous year, India and Pakistan pledged to adhere rigorously to all cease-fire agreements along the Line of Control and the International Border as well as to address “each other’s key issues and concerns.” The two nations were working to keep the peace along the Line of Control (LoC), where Pakistan committed more than 4,600 cease-fire violations in 2020.

The Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the Indian and Pakistani armies had agreed to a “strict observance of all agreements, understandings, and ceasefire along the Line of Control and all other sectors from midnight on February 24/25, 2021,” according to the statement, the first jointly released by the two nations in more than eight years.
