Parliament Budget Session 2024: According to sources, the Parliament is getting ready for the Budget session, which is set to take place from January 31 to February 9. On the first day of the session, President Draupadi Murmu will address both houses, laying the groundwork for important budgetary pronouncements. A substantial legislative revamp is not expected, but doubling the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi initiative for women farmers could be a game-changer.

Emphasis on the potential policy change

According to Reuters news agency, the government is thinking of increasing the yearly compensation given to female landowner farmers by double to Rs 12,000 in recent days. According to sources cited in the news agency’s story, the scheme might cost the government an additional Rs 12,000 crore and is expected to be announced in the budget on February 1.

If included in the interim budget that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman delivered on February 1, this suggested increase would be a step towards the empowerment of women employed in agriculture ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.

Emphasis on India’s economic vision

India aims to become a $30 trillion economy by 2047, thus among other things, the government is likely to expand capital spending to support infrastructure development and create more jobs. Minor adjustments to income tax laws cannot be ruled out in the forthcoming interim budget, even though significant changes are doubtful.

A boost is also anticipated for the ambitious production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme, which is part of the government’s plan to make India a global centre for manufacturing.
