India's flagship airline company, Air India, is once again in trouble, which is not a good thing. The continuous air accidents and customer complaints have gone viral on social media, raising many questions about the standards of safety and the quality of services provided by the particular airline. In the latest controversy posted by user @RShivshankar on X (formerly Twitter), many have again spoken out on the benefits of the airline system and the crisis management systems being used.

Viral Experiences Trigger Alarm

In one of the videos replicated on the internet, passengers (at least) appear terrified as cabin lights flicker and oxygen masks drop down due to some technical glitch during the flight. In another, a long tarmac with little communication by the crew led to intense debate and anxiety among passengers. And these visuals are being posted thousands of times, creating a frightening prospect for India's oldest airline.

Although no deaths or serious injuries have been reported, these incidents occur frequently and are highly visible, which is enough to make people nervous about flying. Professionals are today urging the aviation authorities to intervene in this matter and carry out a complete audit of the safety procedures in Air India.

Growing Passenger Frustration

Apart from safety, customers are also getting upset with in-flight service, poor service, and old aircraft. Many regular flyers believe that the privatization of the airline by the Tata Group had raised their expectations a lot, but given these events, it seems that something is wrong somewhere in terms of operations.

Passengers have also complained about the transparency of the ground crew during the emergency. Some lost contact, some could not be reached, some were not served food, and others did not receive medical assistance during the delay and turbulence.

Air India’s Response and What’s Next

Air India has released short press releases, admitted the events, but stated that the company is concerned with safety as its highest priority. Investigations are said to be underway, and the affected passengers are being contacted to assist them.

In the meantime, aviation regulator DGCA has sought reports on the technical glitches and will likely tighten the fleet and its training.

With the price war brewing in the fast-expanding aviation industry in India, these kinds of events beg the question of whether established players such as Air India will be able to retain their image in the new age, technology-enabled aviation marketplace.
