The rising petrol and diesel prices in the country are affecting the income of the common man. Everyone is troubled by these rising prices. The price of petrol has reached above Rs 100 in many cities of the country. Oil marketing companies have increased the prices of petrol and diesel for the sixth consecutive day today on October 10.
Petrol price was hiked by 30 paise per litre and diesel by 35 paise a litre, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

The fuel rates vary from state to state and also in cities, depending on the incidence of local taxes like a value-added tax (VAT) and freight charges. According to reports, Rajasthan levies the highest VAT in the country, followed by Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.

State-run oil refiners such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum revise the fuel rates daily, by taking into account the crude oil prices in international markets as well as the rupee-dollar exchange rates. Any changes in petrol and diesel prices are implemented with effect from 6 am every day.
