Narendra Modi government at the Center has declared the Popular Front of India (PFI), its allies, and all fronts unlawful. The Center has banned all of them for 5 years. The central government has also published it in the official gazette. Preparations to ban PFI had already started, after which the Ministry of Home Affairs issued this order.
The Central Government’s action on PFI continued on Tuesday as well. More than 90 of its workers have been detained in the action taken at various locations of PFI in six states of the country.
PFI was founded in 2006 in Kerala and claims to run a new social movement for the empowerment of marginalized sections in India. However, security agencies claim that PFI is propagating radical Islam. This organization was established in Kerala and its headquarter is in Delhi.
A similar action was taken five days ago against the PFI, which is facing charges of spreading fanatic Islam. The raids were carried out by the state police of Karnataka, Gujarat, Delhi, Maharashtra, Assam, and Madhya Pradesh.
On September 22, teams of various agencies led by the NIA conducted raids in 15 states against the PFI and arrested 106 of its leaders and activists on charges of supporting terrorist activities in the country. NIA is probing 19 cases related to PFI.
