Physiotherapists Play Pivotal Role In Disasters Like Turkiye-Syria Earthquake: PM Modi

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that a physiotherapist's role is vital for rehabilitation after disasters like the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

He proposed to change "tele-medicine," the ability to consult specialists through phone or video conference, more publicly accessible so that assistance can be obtained in times of need without any barriers.

"In times of pain, physiotherapists are a symbol of hope, symbol of resilience and symbol of recovery. When a person falls pray to an accident or a catastrophe, it's not just physical pain for him/her in form of injuries. But it's a mental and physiological challenge as well," PM Modi said, adding that in such situations, a physiotherapist not only provide cure to the affected person but also gives hope and strength.

The prime minister made his remarks as at least 23,831 people have already died as a result of the deadly earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria. The number of people killed and injuries in Turkey increased to 20,318 and 80,052, respectively, according to the nation's disaster service.

Through a video message, PM Modi spoke at the 60th National Indian Association of Physiotherapists Conference in Ahmedabad.

"As in physiotherapy, continuity and conviction necessary for country's development. Physiotherapists should educate people about right exercise, right posture and right things about keeping themselves fit," the PM further said. Modi added he too needed the help of physiotherapists sometimes, but suggested one combine this with Yoga.

After a gap of 16 years, Gujarat will host the 60th National IAP Conference, where professionals from India and outside will discuss and debate advancements in the field. The first-ever "scientific presentations" (paper and poster presentations) for clinicians are a feature of the conference.

After that, on Saturday, PM Modi will travel to Tripura for two campaign rallies. Manik Saha, the chief minister of Tripura, Mahesh Sharma, and other party officials will greet PM Modi.

The prime minister is scheduled to address at two rallies, the first of which is at Ambassa in the Dhalai district around noon, and the second of which is at Gomati, maybe at three in the afternoon.

On February 13, Prime Minister Modi will also visit to the state of Tripura, which is in the midst of its election. The Indigenous People's Front of Tripura, the BJP's alliance, will fill the final five assembly seats. The BJP has announced candidates for 55 of the seats (IPFT). For each of the 60 seats, the Left-Congress coalition has also announced its candidates.

On February 16, elections are scheduled in Tripura for 60 seats. While elections in Meghalaya and Nagaland will take place on February 27. On March 2, there will be a simultaneous vote count in all three states.
