PM Awas Yojana: Two Years On, 1,036 Beneficiaries Still Await First Installment in Nagar Parishad Area

Beneficiaries are now urging higher authorities to intervene so that the pending installments are released at the earliest.

Even after two years of submitting applications under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-Urban), as many as 1,036 beneficiaries in the Nagar Parishad area are still waiting for the first installment of financial assistance. Despite completing form submission and document verification, the payment process has not moved forward, leaving applicants frustrated and financially burdened.

PM Awas Yojana: Applications Uploaded, Verification Completed Long Ago

According to officials, applications from multiple localities including Hajiyapur, Kaithwaliya, Sareya, Jangaliya, and Purani Chowk were uploaded online two years ago in the presence of Nagar Parishad staff. Document verification was also completed, raising hopes among the applicants that construction work would begin soon.

However, the computerized scrutiny of documents — which officials claim is in its final stage — has taken unusually long. Beneficiaries say they have been visiting the Nagar Parishad office repeatedly but are only receiving assurances instead of concrete action.

Beneficiaries Stuck in Financial Crisis

Several eligible families had already begun partial construction after taking loans in anticipation of receiving PMAY funds. With no installment released yet, many have fallen into financial distress.

Local residents allege that the Nagar Parishad is displaying “administrative sluggishness,” which has brought the entire scheme to a standstill. Many beneficiaries say the delay has not only caused monetary hardship but has also shaken their confidence in the implementation of the housing scheme.

Officials Say Payments May Begin Soon

Officials handling PMAY claim that once the final stage of computerized checking is completed, the first installment will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of all eligible applicants.

However, beneficiaries argue that similar assurances have been given for months, with no real progress on the ground. They fear that if the delay continues, construction costs—already rising sharply—will make it impossible for them to build homes even after receiving the funds.

PMAY’s Objective Getting Defeated

The PM Awas Yojana was launched to ensure affordable housing for all, but prolonged administrative delays defeat the purpose of a welfare scheme designed for economically weaker families.

Beneficiaries are now urging higher authorities to intervene so that the pending installments are released at the earliest.
