Talking on the importance of artificial intelligence in daily life, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bill Gates have a lighthearted moment. He reveals how Indian toddlers are becoming tech-savvy by pronouncing "AI" as their first word.

PM Modi Meets Bill Gates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates had a discussion on a variety of subjects related to India’s progress and development ahead of the Lok Sabha election of 2024. Speaking with the billionaire, Prime Minister Modi discussed the importance of artificial intelligence in the modern world. In jest, Prime Minister Modi claimed that children in India are now so sophisticated that they pronounce “AI” as their first word.

Prime Minister Modi’s Light-hearted Remark

“In India, we call mother ‘aai’ in most of the states and now some advanced kids are saying AI as their first word…it’s a joke but aai and AI sound similar,” PM Modi said. Additionally, PM Modi stated that AI has so effectively permeated the nation that even the average person can use it with ease. “I used AI during the G20 Summit for language interpretation,” PM Modi.

AI Empowering Diplomatic Interactions at the G20 Summit

The prime minister claimed that all of his drivers downloaded an AI software at the G20 Summit and used it to connect with the different foreign visitors who travelled to India for the event. Bill Gates saw PM Modi utilise his Namo app to show the usage of AI. Gates was instructed to use the Namo app to snap a selfie by the PM. All of the pictures of Gates and Modi on the app suddenly surfaced.

AI is a significant innovation that should be embraced, according to PM Modi, “to enhance daily life for everyone”. “I aim to ensure that users feel comfortable and recognise its utility and later encourage them to innovate and contribute new features”. According to PM Modi, “It would be a big injustice if AI is used just as a magic tool. One should compete with ChatGPT”.

Addressing the Threat of Deepfakes

“If such a good thing (AI) is given to someone without proper training, it is likely to be misused…I suggested that we should start with clear watermarks on AI-generated content. So that nobody is misguided…In a democratic country like India, anybody can use deepfake…It’s crucial to acknowledge that deepfake content is AI-generated…We need to think about some dos and don’ts…”PM Modi added.
