PM Modi: Today, as he presided over a high-level conference to assess the situation in Sudan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi instructed officials to create a backup plan for the safe evacuation of the more than 3,000 Indians who are still trapped there due to fighting between the army and paramilitary forces.

Medical professionals have issued a dire warning

'PM Modi had a first-hand account of the situation, with an emphasis on the protection of more than 3,000 Indians in Sudan. PM Modi gave the necessary officials orders to be on high alert, closely watch events, and assess the safety of all Indian citizens. Considering the quickly changing security environment and the viability of choices, he also asked the officials to put together a contingency evacuation plan,' according to the Prime Minister's office. The country's army and paramilitary groups are fighting, disregarding calls from international powers for an end-of-Ramadan ceasefire, and more than 300 people have been slain. The majority of the five million residents of Sudan's capital Khartoum, who are sheltering at home in the sweltering heat without electricity, food, or water, have witnessed some of the worst combat, with air strikes and tanks firing in tightly packed districts. Significant communication disruptions occur. Medical professionals have issued a dire warning, particularly in Khartoum, where numerous hospitals are said to have been caught in the crossfire.

Departure of US Embassy personnel from Sudan

According to the doctors' organisation, the war has "out of service" up to 70% of the hospitals in Khartoum and the surrounding states. Since many injured people can't get to hospitals, it has been warned that the death toll will likely be far higher than reported. The US Defence Department announced on Thursday that it was deploying forces "nearby in the region" in an effort to "secure and possibly facilitate the departure of US Embassy personnel from Sudan," putting some nations' evacuation preparations on hold.
