PM Modi: India's first underwater metro route was officially Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday in Kolkata. This historic project highlights the country's progress towards infrastructural development. Additionally, he set the groundwork for other Rs 15,400 crore connectivity projects.

India's First Under-River Metro Tunnel

The first transit tunnel in India to cross a significant river is part of the Kolkata Metro extension, which comprises the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade Metro section. This is a significant development in the nation's infrastructure.

This segment demonstrates the technological prowess that went into its construction as well as the strategic significance of linking two of Kolkata's busiest regions to improve the effectiveness and reach of the city's public transit system.

Prime Minister Modi's Inaugural Ride on Underwater Metro

Along with a number of schoolchildren, the prime minister rode the underwater metro for the first time. A video captured from within the metro train's premises depicts Modi engaging with the schoolchildren seated behind him, as well as those standing in close proximity.

Transforming Urban Commuting

All of these projects aim to greatly reduce traffic on the roads and give the general public smooth, effective, and comfortable connectivity. For example, the recently opened Agra Metro segment is expected to improve accessibility to the city's historical and tourism destinations, and the RRTS corridor is intended to boost economic activity in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Government's Pledge to Sustainable Transport Networks

The government's commitment to creating effective and sustainable transport networks throughout India is demonstrated by this extensive effort, which aims to improve connectivity, transform the way people commute, and lessen its impact on the environment while also promoting economic growth.

Later on in the day, PM Modi will dedicate, lay the foundation, and open a number of infrastructure projects in Bettiah, West Champaran district, Bihar, pertaining to rail, road, and petroleum and natural gas. These projects are estimated to be about 12,800 crore. From March 4 to 6, PM Modi will make three trips to Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar.
