Today is Gujarati New Year, also known as Bestu Varsh. The Gujarati community around the world is today celebrating New Year with traditional zeal and fervour.
The Vikram Sanvat 2079, the Gujarati New Year, started today, according to an AIR journalist.

In Gujarat, the five-day Diwali celebrations include a new year’s celebration called as Bestu Varsh. On the first day of the New Year, people go to the temples. To greet guests on the new year, homes are decorated with Asopalav torans, marigold flowers, and a lovely Rangoli at the entryway.

To wish each other a happy new year, relatives and friends stop at each other’s residences. Folks enjoy customary feasts. For five days, most markets and businesses are closed in the state.
