PM Modi Laos Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Lao PDR, emphasized the growing importance of the India-ASEAN relationship, declaring the 21st century as the century of India and ASEAN countries. He noted the shared values of peace, mutual respect for national integrity and sovereignty, and a commitment to securing a bright future for youth.
“We are peace-loving countries, respect each other’s national integrity and sovereignty, and we are committed to the bright future of our youth. I believe that the 21st century is the century of India and ASEAN countries,” said PM Modi. He highlighted the importance of India-ASEAN cooperation in a world often marked by conflict and tension.
Strengthening Business and Connectivity with ASEAN
Prime Minister Modi also pointed out the significant progress in business and connectivity between India and ASEAN over the past decade. “Over the past 10 years, our business with the ASEAN region has nearly doubled to more than 130 billion dollars,” he said. He also underscored the importance of maritime security and regional stability, mentioning the maritime exercises initiated last year.
Additionally, he emphasized India’s direct flight connectivity with seven ASEAN countries and announced that direct flight services to Brunei would begin soon, further strengthening ties between the regions.
A Warm Welcome in Lao PDR
PM Modi’s visit to Lao PDR was marked by a warm and memorable welcome. The Indian community in the region displayed strong connections to their cultural roots, with locals even engaging in the Bihu dance and speaking in Hindi. This cultural exchange further highlighted the deep ties between India and the ASEAN region.
