In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call, the nation actively participated in a one-hour cleanliness drive today. In preparation for Gandhi Jayanti, PM Modi encouraged citizens to engage in ‘Shramdaan,’ a cleanliness initiative under the Swachh Bharat campaign, which commenced at 10 am.

The one-hour ‘Shramdaan’ program is organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Prime Minister Modi had issued the call for ‘Shramdaan’ earlier this month during the 105th episode of Mann Ki Baat.

Taking to X, PM Modi wrote, “Today, as the nation focuses on Swachhata, Ankit Baiyanpuriya and I did the same! Beyond just cleanliness, we blended fitness and well-being also into the mix. It is all about that Swachh and Swasth Bharat vibe! @Ankit_Wrestler.”

BJP leaders join the campaign

In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to dedicate an hour to cleanliness initiatives in anticipation of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday, BJP leaders across the country took to the streets on Sunday morning. The one-hour ‘Shramdaan’ (effort) commenced at 10 am, and the first BJP leader spotted participating was Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Amit Shah, aged 58, was observed actively cleaning the streets of Ahmedabad with a long broom in hand, engaging in conversations with BJP workers in his vicinity.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who leads the Shiv Sena faction and co-governs in alliance with the BJP, engaged with children during a program organized by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Shinde interacted with the children, shaking hands and conversing with them. The BMC is conducting this program at 178 locations throughout Mumbai.

Meanwhile, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, state BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary actively participated in a cleanliness drive as part of the ‘Clean India’ campaign.
