Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed the 75th 'Amrit Mahotsav' of Swaminarayan Gurukul Rajkot Sansthan through video conferencing. He said, 'I heartily congratulate all of you for this journey of 75 years of Rajkot Gurukal. The future of this institute will be even more glorious and its contribution in the service sector will be immense. PM said that this institute is doing commendable work in areas like healthcare, education and other aspects of community service. Prime Minister Modi said, 'Just remembering the name of Lord Swaminarayan fills me with energy. Today, in the dignified presence of all of you, I feel blessed on this occasion.'
75 years of Swaminarayan Gurukul Rajkot's journey is being completed
PM Modi said that the vision that Pujya Dharmajivan Das Ji Swami Ji had for the Gurukul included everything from spirituality and modernity to culture and rituals. After the country became independent, it was our responsibility to revive our ancient glory and great pride in the field of education. Swaminarayan Gurukul is an excellent example of this pride. 75 years of Swaminarayan Gurukul Rajkot's journey is being completed in such a period, when the country is celebrating 75 years of its independence. This Gurukul has irrigated the mind and brain of the students with good thoughts and values, so that their overall development can take place. The slave mentality of the previous government never allowed them to glorify our great education system. Our teachers and saints have taken it upon themselves to ensure that our traditions and value-based education is imparted at Swaminarayan Gurukul.
The PM said that in the period when other countries of the world were identified with their states and royal clans, then India was identified with the Gurukuls of Bharatbhoomi. Discovery and research were part of the way of life in India. Universities like Nalanda and Takshashila used to be synonymous with the global glory of our Gurukul tradition. He was the guiding light for the Indian education system. The cultural prosperity of India that we are seeing today is the result of that. Very few people know that poor students have to pay only one rupee per day as fees in Swaminarayan Gurukul. It is making quality education accessible to the poor.
Prime Minister Modi said, when words like gender equality were not even born in the world, at that time scholars like Gargi and Maitreyi were doing debates here. Atreyi was also studying in Maharishi Valmiki's ashram. I am happy that Swaminarayan Gurukul is starting 'Kanya Gurukul' to take this ancient tradition forward to modern India. I convey my best wishes to all of you for this. This institute was established in 1948 by Saint Dharmajivandas Swami in Rajkot. At present there are more than 40 branches of this institute in the country and the world. More than 25,000 students take education in schools and higher educational institutions run by the Institute. This Gurukul provides education from primary to post graduation.
