PM Modi to Inaugurate India’s Longest Cable-Stayed Bridge! Sudarshan Setu, Linking Beyt Dwarka and Okha

Learn about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's grand opening of Sudarshan Setu, the longest cable-stayed bridge in India.

PM Modi: The longest cable-stayed bridge in India, the “Sudarshan Setu,” will be officially opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It will link the Gujarat island of Beyt Dwarka with the Okha mainland.

Length and Cost of Sudarshan Setu

The 2.32 km long, four-lane cable-stayed bridge was constructed for around Rs 980 crore. It is sometimes referred to as the Okha-Beyt Dwarka Signature Bridge. One kilowatt of electricity is produced by solar panels that are mounted on the upper parts of the walkway. The bridge would connect the old and modern Dwarka, PM Modi had stated when he laid the bridge’s foundation stone in 2017.

Bridge Dimensions

The bridge is 27.2 metres (89 feet) wide overall, with two lanes in each direction. It also contains 2.5-meter (8-foot) broad walkways on both sides that are decorated with Lord Krishna pictures and verses from the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. Beyt Dwarka is an island next to Okha port, approximately 30 km from Dwarka town, home of the well-known Dwarkadhish temple dedicated to Lord Krishna.

Improved Accessibility

In contrast to the past, when people could only travel by boat during the day, the bridge’s construction would enable devotees to visit Beyt Dwarka whenever they choose. The goal of building Sudarshan Setu is to serve about 8,500 islanders and provide lodging for almost two million pilgrims who come to the nearby temples.

PM’s Devotional Visit

The Prime Minister will do darshan and pooja at the Beyt Dwarka temple on Sunday morning. At 8:25 a.m., there will be a visit to the Sudarshan Setu. After that, at 9:30 am, he would go to the Dwarkadhish Temple. As to the official statement from the Press Information Bureau, PM Modi is scheduled to inaugurate multiple projects in Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Porbandar districts, in addition to addressing a public meeting in the vicinity.
