PM Modi to inaugurate Pune Metro on March 6.

The commercial operations of the metro rail service in Maharashtra’s Pune is set to become operational on March 6 following the inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM Modi is slated to take a ride on the Pune Metro on Sunday from Garware Station to Vanaz to launch operations of the metro rail service.

The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) has received a safety clearance certificate from commissioner of metro railway safety (CMRS) to run Pune Metro on a 12 km route from Vanaz to Garware College to PCMC to Phugewadi lines.

MahaMetro, the 50:50 jointly owned Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), of Government of India and Government of Maharashtra, is executing the Pune Metro rail project.

Pune Metro Phase 1 has two corridors – one from Vanaz to Ramwadi, which is an elevated line, and the other from Pimpri Chinchwad to Swargate, which is elevated till the Agriculture College in Shivajinagar and underground after that.

Additionally, Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate multiple developmental projects. He will also lay the foundation stone of rejuvenation and pollution abatement of Mula-Mutha River projects. Rejuvenation will be done in 9 Km stretch of the river at a project cost of more than ₹1080 crores. It will involve works such as river edge protection, interceptor sewage network, public amenities, boating activity etc., PMO said.
