Independence Day 2023: According to three people with knowledge of the development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day 2023 speech may focus on how his administration has been successful in building a solid foundation for "Viksit Bharat" and how it will serve as a roadmap for progress during the "Amrit Kaal" that will help the country become a developed country by 2047.
Accelerating India's Development Agenda for 'Amrit Kaal'
The officials who spoke on condition of anonymity said that he is likely to signal the acceleration of his technology-intensive development agenda for the "Amrit Kaal" -- including food security, accessible healthcare, clean drinking water for all, universal education, a drive to improve public health, skill development, and a circular economy -- from the rampart of the Red Fort. “In the last nine years of his rule, PM Modi already took several initiatives and pursued them relentlessly. As a result, India could not only stand strong during the worst crisis of the century of Covid-19 pandemic, but also emerged stronger – bringing over 135 million people out of poverty,” one of them said. Over 135 million people in India have been lifted out of poverty in the last five years, according to an NITI Aayog report published on July 17. The number of multidimensionally poor people in India has decreased by 9.89 percentage points, from 24.85% in 2015–16 to 14.96% in 2019–2021, with rural areas experiencing the fastest decline.
PM Modi to Navigate India's Course for the Next Quarter Century
According to officials, the prime minister is scheduled to outline his vision for the "Amrit Kaal," or the policy focus for the next 25 years, in his speech. The social programmes the Modi government has unveiled over the past nine years are anticipated to reach their saturation point during this time. “PM Modi is not just interested in announcing scheme, but his interest also lies in delivery, that too 100%. That is why, while replying to the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha, Union finance minister raised the slogan of ‘ho gaya’ [achieved],” a second person said. On August 11, HT cited FM in a report. According to a third source, the prime minister would ask officials, party members, and policymakers to build on the progress made over the previous nine years and fully implement welfare programmes. “This is true not only for social or welfare measures but also true for economic policies. Having achieved the feat of becoming the fifth largest economy after replacing the UK, the PM is keen on becoming number three after the US and China in his next term. He will not only reiterate it in his speech but also give necessary directives and set definite milestones to achieve that,” he said.
PM Modi's Update on Key Areas and Social Development Awaits
However, officials were mum on any specific announcements. They suggested that after India's 75th anniversary celebrations were over, attention would turn from the "Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" to the "Amrit Kaal." PM Modi is anticipated to provide a thorough update on critical areas, notably those connected to social development. The massive outreach initiatives, which have produced millions of beneficiaries, are also crucial politically for the BJP. These beneficiaries, who are receiving basic amenities for the first time under this administration, are Modi's suraksha kavach (defensive armour), which the opposition's unfounded accusations cannot pierce, he claimed in his remarks during the debate on the President's speech. According to those with knowledge of the situation, PM Modi will highlight risky policy decisions like the repeal of Article 370 and how it affected Kashmir, which is now rising from decades of terrorism's shadow. He is anticipated to emphasise the development of the northeast and declare that his ambitions to integrate it with Southeast Asian and ASEAN economies will cause the region to become a hub of development. The emphasis would also be on having zero tolerance for corruption, utilising technology and e-governance to build a transparent and accountable ecosystem, and trusting people to make laws for the general welfare.
PM Modi's Focus on Speedy Change, Innovation, and Equality
They predicted that PM Modi will prioritise rapid and wide-ranging changes, technological innovation, the emancipation of women, and an environmentally responsible strategy. According to the people, he places a significant priority on the welfare of over 110 million small farmers, including 30 million women farmers. Amit Shah, the Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, spoke extensively about how the PM Modi administration has outperformed the UPA in a number of areas, including health, agriculture, education, and rural development, in his response to the Opposition's no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha. As the final Independence Day address before the upcoming Lok Sabha election, the speech also gains political significance and a public outreach. When responding to the no-confidence motion, Prime Minister Modi cited his first Independence Day address and claimed that although he spoke about cleanliness and restrooms, his opponents made fun of him and even criticised him for doing so from the Red Fort's ramparts.
