PM Narendra Modi to inaugurate 5G services today at India Mobile Congress

An era of ultra-high-speed internet on mobile phones will begin with the introduction of 5G telephony services today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.The services will be launched at India Mobile Congress (IMC) in New Delhi which also starts today.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Cellular Operators Association of India jointly organise the India Mobile Congress (IMC), which bills itself as the largest telecom, media, and technology gathering in Asia (COAI).

In addition to enabling ultra-low latency connections that allow full-length, high-quality videos and movies to be downloaded to a mobile device in a matter of seconds (even in congested areas), 5G can also enable solutions for e-health, connected cars, more immersive augmented reality and metaverse experiences, life-saving use cases, and advanced mobile cloud gaming, among others.

An official statement states that the Prime Minister would officially introduce 5G today in a few cities before gradually expanding across the whole nation over the following few years. By 2035, it is anticipated that India will have seen a total economic effect of USD 450 billion.

The fifth generation, or 5G, service, which can handle ultra-high-speed internet, is anticipated to unleash new economic prospects and societal advantages, acting as a transformative force for Indian society.

To illustrate the potential of 5G technology in India, each of the three major telecom providers in the nation will present a use case to the Prime Minister.
