Pregnant woman operated upon by nurse on video call with doctor dies during surgery

An attempt was made to replicate the subplot of the Bollywood blockbuster 3 Idiots in real life. Meanwhile, a pregnant woman had a tragic end due to an operation on video call with a gynaecologist. A pregnant woman died late on Monday night in Bihar’s Purnia district.

A pregnant woman named Malti Devi (22) was admitted to Samarpan Prasuti Hospital in Line Bazar area of Purnia on Monday evening after she complained of labor pain. Gynecologist Seema Kumari was out of town at that time. Despite that, the woman was admitted and operated upon by the hospital administration. Reported that Malti was in severe labor pain, the nurses and other medical staff consulted Seema Kumari. After this it was decided to go ahead with the operation to make the delivery possible.

Instruction to the nurse through video call

They took Malti to the operation theater and appointed a nurse for the operation. The nurse was instructed through a video call and performed the operation, but inadvertently cut a vital vein in her abdomen, resulting in Malti’s death.

The woman had given birth to twin children. Newborns are alive and healthy. After the incident, the relatives of the deceased created a ruckus in the hospital on Tuesday morning. As the situation went out of control, Ranjit Kumar, SHO of Khazanchi Assistant Police Station along with his team reached the hospital and restored order.
