President Droupadi Murmu attends 10th convocation of Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University

Lucknow: “Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar is like God for me. He had done something because of which I am standing in front of you today”, said President Droupadi Murmu on Monday.

Speaking at the tenth convocation ceremony of Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University here on Monday, the President said that the Uttar Pradesh Global Investors Summit has infused new energy in the country, urging students to get involved and use their full potential for the development of the changing state and the country. “This is the time to take the nation on the path of development”, she said.

The President said: “Only yesterday I attended the closing ceremony of UPGIS. A favorable investment environment has been created for investors in Uttar Pradesh. The time has come to connect our educational institutions with this conducive atmosphere. Do innovative research and create an incubation center for startups. India is the country with the third largest startup eco system in the world. Universities are expected to take advantage of this eco system and encourage students for research and innovation.”

Exhorting students to take inspiration from the life and journey of Babasaheb, which can help them achieve the most difficult goals, the President said that as much as there was struggle in the life of Babasaheb, his work was equally remarkable. She said that the life of Dr. Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution of independent India and the country's first Law Minister, was based on values and principles.

“In the National Education Policy 2020 special emphasis has been laid on the need for research and innovation. The National Education Policy aims at making India a knowledge superpower by emphasising on skill based education and having multidisciplinary approach”,

The President also inaugurated the Birsa Munda Student Activity Center during this period. She said that the biography of Bhagwan Birsa Munda is a source of inspiration for the youth. Equipped with various sports facilities, the centre will help in the physical fitness of the students as well as in their all-round development.

President heaps praise on meritorious daughters

The President informed that 60 percent of the gold medalists at the university are girl students. “I congratulate all the students and give special appreciation to the daughters. Whatever you all want to become in life, try from today itself. Some of your children will get private and some others will get government jobs. Some will become entrepreneurs, while I want some children to become good teachers and professors too. It is very important to have good teachers in a good education system. The National Education Policy 2020 emphasizes that teachers should be at the heart of the education system”, Murmu remarked.

The President told students that as they were about to enter a challenging and competitive world, they must try to exploit their complete potential to take the country on the path of development. “At the same time, it is very important to stay connected with your values and culture. Only then you can live a meaningful life. This time of Amrit Kaal is of activism and progressiveness”, the President pointed out.

Earlier, Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjay Singh presented the welcome speech and academic report. The Vice-Chancellor welcomed President Droupadi Murmu and Chancellor Prakash C. Bertunia bypresenting them mementos of the Bodhi tree. A total of 3808 graduates as well as masters, MPhil, PhD, PG diploma and diploma students from 38 departments of 17 schools of studies were awarded at the ceremony. Governor Anandiben Patel, Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay were also present on the occasion.
