President Droupadi Murmu meets Guneet Monga, Kartiki Gonsalves, congratulates them for The Elephant Whisperers win at the Oscars

President Droupadi Murmu: After meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, The Elephant Whisperers team of Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga met President Droupadu Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. The official Twitter page of the President shared the pictures of the meeting.

Guneet Monga and filmmaker Kartiki Gonsalves are basking in the glow of the win of their documentary, The Elephant Whisperers, at the Oscars. The documentary won the Academy Award in the Best Short category.

First they met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and now the duo called on President Drouapdi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.

President shares pictures

The official Twitter page of the President of India shared pictures from the meet. One of the pictures showed Guneet and Kartki posing with the President as they gifted her elephant souvenir made of wood. The other picture showed the three ladies indulging in deep conversation.

In the caption, the official Twitter account of the President congratulated the team while lauding their efforts for highlighting ‘India's tradition of conservation and living in harmony with nature.’

The caption read, “President Droupadi Murmu met the makers of the Oscar-winning documentary 'The Elephant Whisperers', Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga. She congratulated them on winning the award and praised them for showcasing India's tradition of conservation and living in harmony with nature (sic).”

Reacting to the post, Guneet Monga wrote, “Our victory now feels complete. Sharing our award with you is an absolute honour! So touched & humbled to have met you, @rashtrapatibhvn. Will always cherish your kindness, and appreciation for our film. @EarthSpectrum @sikhyaent @NetflixIndia (sic).”

The Elephant Whisperers

The phenomenal Tamil docu-short that won the Oscar award, follows human caretakers named Bomman and Bellie as they take care of young orphaned elephant calves Raghu and Ammu at an elephant camp in Tami Nadu. It was nominated in the Documentary Short Film Category alongside Haul Out, How Do You Measure A Year, The Martha Mitchell Effect, and Stranger At The Gate. It was a historic win as this is the first-ever Oscar for an Indian production.
