Presidential polls: Centre grants ‘Z+’ category security to NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu

A day after BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) picked up Droupadi Murmu as its candidate for the upcoming Presidential elections, the Tribal woman leader has been granted ‘Z+’ category armed security cover by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials said on Wednesday.

The security was granted to Murmu from Wednesday morning following orders received from the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday evening, an official, according to ANI. If elected, the 64-year-old leader from Odisha will be the first tribal and the second woman to become the President of India. She was also in consideration for the presidential post in 2017 but later Ramnath Kovind made the cut.

Meanwhile, Draupadi Murmu on visited Lord Jagannath, Hanuman, and Shiv temples at Rairangpur town and offered her prayers today morning. Murmu was also seen sweeping the floor at Purnandeswar Shiv temple in the town before offering prayers. Then, she visited Prajapita Brahma Kumari Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya and paid obeisance, said reports.

BJP president JP Nadda on Tuesday announced that Murmu will be the ruling NDA’s candidate for the upcoming presidential polls. The decision was taken following a meeting of the party’s parliamentary board, which included Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders. The opposition, on the other hand, jointly announced Yashwant Sinha as their pick for the upcoming presidential polls.
