Priyanka Gandhi to begin election campaign in Assam on March 1

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will be on a visit to Assam on Monday (March 1) to kick start campaign for party candidates for upcoming Assembly election.

She will be on a two-day visit to the election-bound state wherein she will attend various programmes. On the first day she will attend some events, while on the second day she will address a rally on March 2 in Tezpur town in Assam.

Prior to her, party leader Rahul Gandhi had visited the state to and addressed a rally. In his address, the veteran leaders said that Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will be highlighted as the main agenda from Congress party’s side.

While Rahul has campaigned in certain states, Priyanka has limited herself to Uttar Pradesh.

As all the five-states scheduled to hold elections gears up for campaign, the state Congress units in other poll-bound states also want Vadra to campaign for their candidates. In the same line, Kerala state unit has already sent a proposal to the general secretary in-charge of the state mentioning the campaign dates of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

The Election Commission of India announced the schedule for assembly elections in four states and the union territory of Puducherry on Friday. Assam will hold Assembly elections in three phases beginning March 27 and the counting of votes will take place on May 2, as per the information revealed by the election commission.

Currently, Assam is led by BJP which seems confident of winning polls. Meanwhile, Congress is trying its best to expand its territory as it has established alliance with All India United Democratic Fund in the state.
