Pulwama Attack 5th Anniversary: Remembering the Sacrifice of 40 Soldiers, PM Modi Pays Tribute

Pulwama Attack 5th Anniversary

Pulwama Attack 5th Anniversary: The February 14, 2019, Pulwama incident serves as a sobering reminder of the difficulties in combating terrorism. That awful day, a suicide bomber in Pulwama attacked a CRPF convoy, killing forty gallant soldiers. At the time of the incident, the convoy—which included approximately 2,500 jawans—was either travelling back to deployment locations or returning from leave.

Autonomy for Security Forces

Following the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that those at fault would pay a price and that the security forces had been given complete autonomy over the timing, place, and type of response. On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted an homage to the martyrs on social media platform X.

Twelve days later, the Indian Air Force launched airstrikes on a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) camp in Balakot, Pakistan, demonstrating their resolve. The incident sparked widespread demonstrations across the country and significant diplomatic efforts to label JeM leader Masood Azhar a global terrorist. These efforts paid off when, on May 1, 2019, China removed a technical hold on a UN Security Council proposal, which resulted in Azhar’s designation.

NIA’s Probe Into Pulwama Attack

The Pulwama attack’s conspiracy was largely dissected by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The chargesheet, which included Azhar, was submitted in August 2020 and was based on electronic evidence as well as the statements of terrorists and their associates. We respect the sacrifice of the slain heroes and reaffirm our resolve to fighting terrorism in all of its manifestations as we remember the anniversary of the Pulwama assault.
