Punjab Receives National Energy Conservation Award 2025, Recognition for Chief Minister Mann’s Foresighted Policies
The tireless efforts of the Punjab government in energy conservation and renewable energy have received national recognition. President Droupadi Murmu honored the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) with the prestigious ‘State Performance Award – Group 3’ at the National Energy Conservation Awards 2025 ceremony. This award is proof of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s farsighted policies and commitment to public welfare. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from across the country, including Union Energy Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Punjab’s Energy Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO dedicated this historic achievement to the people of Punjab and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, saying that this award is the result of the Aam Aadmi government’s public welfare schemes. He stated that the Mann government has taken several important steps to bring transparency in the energy sector, stop electricity theft, and promote renewable energy. The award was received on behalf of PEDA by its Director General at a grand ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, which was a moment of pride for the entire state.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed happiness over this achievement, saying that this award is the result of the hard work of Punjab’s toiling people and the dedication of the PEDA team. He said that his government’s aim is to make Punjab self-reliant in the energy sector and a model of sustainable development. In the last three years, the Mann government has rapidly promoted solar energy projects and launched special schemes to provide solar pumps to farmers. Additionally, solid steps have been taken to improve power quality and end load shedding.
PEDA has run several campaigns in Punjab to raise awareness about energy conservation and renewable energy. These include energy audits in schools, colleges, and government buildings, distribution of LED bulbs, and expansion of solar rooftop schemes. Along with providing free electricity up to 300 units to domestic consumers, the state government has also made electricity rates competitive in the industrial sector. Experts believe that the Mann government’s policies have improved the investment climate in Punjab and created new employment opportunities.
According to PEDA officials, Punjab has recorded remarkable growth in solar energy production over the past three years. Thousands of megawatts of solar projects have been installed in the state so far, with plans to increase this further in the coming times. Providing solar pumps to farmers instead of diesel pumps has not only reduced their costs but also contributed to environmental conservation. Additionally, transformers and distribution systems have been strengthened to improve electricity supply in rural areas. All these efforts are part of Chief Minister’s ‘Rangla Punjab’ vision.
This national recognition takes Punjab’s image to new heights. Other states in the country are now thinking of adopting Punjab’s energy model. The central government has also appreciated Punjab’s efforts and assured priority to the state in central schemes going forward. Energy experts say that if this pace continues, Punjab could soon become India’s first carbon neutral state. This achievement is an inspiration not only for the state but for the entire country.
Leaders and workers of the Aam Aadmi Party have called this award historic and congratulated Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Party’s national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that this award proves that honest governments working for public interest eventually get recognition. On social media too, the people of Punjab have welcomed this news and praised the Mann government, saying that for the first time they feel the state is moving in the right direction.
The Punjab government has also announced that more big reforms will be made in the energy sector in the coming times. These include smart meter systems, digitization in electricity distribution, and development of green energy corridors. The Chief Minister said that his goal is to provide 24-hour quality electricity to every home and ensure transparency in electricity bills. For this, the government has allocated a special budget and strengthened coordination between various departments. The public has also been appealed to stay aware about energy saving and take benefit of government schemes.
This award is not just an honor for Punjab, but a milestone that sets the direction for the future. The commitment of the Mann government and the hard work of PEDA have proved that with the right policies and honest administration, the state can be taken to new heights. Punjab is now moving towards becoming a role model in the energy sector of the country, and this journey will continue. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has resolved to take Punjab forward in every field and serving the people is his greatest duty.
