Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge Write to PM Modi Demanding Immediate Special Parliament Session Over Pahalgam Attack, Ceasefire

In a significant political move, both the Leaders of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha — Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge — have written formal letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding that a special session of Parliament be convened without delay to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and the recent ceasefire declarations by India, Pakistan, and the United States.

“A Collective National Response is Needed”: Rahul Gandhi

In his letter dated May 10, Rahul Gandhi emphasized the urgent need for Parliament to come together in light of escalating cross-border tensions and the tragic loss of Indian soldiers in the Pahalgam terrorist attack.

“It is crucial for the people and their representatives to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and today’s ceasefire, first announced by U.S. President Trump,” Gandhi wrote.

He further underlined that such a session would serve as a show of unity and strength, stating,

“This will also be an opportunity to demonstrate our collective resolve to meet the challenges ahead.”

Mallikarjun Kharge Endorses Unanimous Opposition Demand

Echoing Gandhi’s sentiments, Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, also wrote to the Prime Minister on May 11, referring to an earlier joint appeal made on April 28. He reiterated the “unanimous request of all Opposition parties” and extended his full support for a special session.

“As Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, I am writing in support of this request,” Kharge stated, adding that he trusts the Prime Minister will “agree to the need for such a session.”

Kharge\’s letter underlined the pressing national interest in debating critical issues such as the ceasefire announcements made first in Washington D.C. and later affirmed by both New Delhi and Islamabad.

Parliament’s Role in National Crises Under Spotlight

The call for a special session comes amid rising public and political pressure for transparency and unity following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of several Indian soldiers. The government\’s military response under Operation Sindoor and subsequent international developments have only heightened the demand for a formal debate within the legislative framework.
