Rahul Gandhi, the head of the Congress, said on Thursday that Jawaharlal Nehru is remembered for the job he accomplished rather than merely for his name, despite the intense political debate surrounding the renaming of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library. "Nehru ji is known for the work he did, and not just his name,” the Congress MP said.
NMML Renamed as Prime Ministers' Museum and Library Society
On Tuesday, in honour of India's 77th Independence Day, the government renamed the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) in New Delhi as the Prime Ministers' Museum and Library Society. A Surya Prakash, vice chair of the executive council of the Prime Ministers' Museum and Library, tweeted about the name and said it was "in tune with the democratisation and diversification of the remit of the society."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to Congress, is "distorting and destroying" the Nehruvian tradition. "He (Modi) has erased N and put P instead. That P is really for pettiness and peeve," the Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said. At a special NMML Society meeting in the middle of June, the decision to change the name was made. In a statement at the time, the Union Culture Ministry said, "Housed in a new facility, the museum then goes on to recount the tale of how our Prime Ministers led the country through various difficulties and ensured the overall progress of the country. It democratises the institutional memory by recognising all Prime Ministers.
