Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has once again taken to social media to sharply criticize the government’s foreign policy, questioning the BJP-led Centre on India’s diplomatic handling of its ongoing conflict with Pakistan. In a scathing tweet, he wrote:
“Will JJ explain:
• Why has India been hyphenated with Pakistan?
• Why didn’t a single country back us in condemning Pakistan?
• Who asked Trump to 'mediate' between India & Pakistan?
India’s foreign policy has collapsed.”
This comes after former U.S. President Donald Trump made controversial remarks suggesting mediation between the two South Asian rivals, a statement that has stirred political debate and public outrage in India. Gandhi’s reference to “JJ” is seen as a jibe at External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, pressing him for clarity and accountability.
The BJP, meanwhile, has responded strongly. Senior party leaders accused the Congress leader of undermining national interests and standing with adversaries during a sensitive time.
BJP Reacts
“Instead of supporting India’s global position, Rahul Gandhi is once again playing politics on foreign policy. He’s questioning India’s sovereignty and strength,” said BJP spokespersons.
Rahul Gandhi’s statement has sparked fresh debate in political circles, with many questioning whether India's global stance is weakening or if opposition leaders are misrepresenting diplomatic nuances for political gain.
As tensions continue in the subcontinent and foreign players weigh in, the government faces growing pressure to address both public concerns and international optics.
