Rain, Thunderstorm Batter Several Parts of Delhi-NCR, Jama Masjid Damaged

On Monday, 30 May, heavy drops of rain pelted sections of Delhi-NCR, lowering temperatures and offering a much-needed reprieve from the sweltering heat. Meanwhile, severe rains caused damage to the Jama Masjid’s center dome.

Visuals posted by Delhi residents on Twitter show cars shaking on the roads, pushed by the high wind speed. The weather officer earlier today had forecast a thunderstorm with light- to moderate-intensity rain and gusty winds with speeds up to 50 kmph.

The weather office also forecasts rain in parts of Gurgaon, neighboring Delhi. Today’s storm comes exactly a week after another big storm hit the national capital, uprooting trees and affecting flight operations.

The Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC) in Delhi said that thunderstorms, dust storms, and gusty winds with a speed of 70-80 km per hour would occur over and adjoining areas of entire Delhi and NCR Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Indrapuram, Dadri, Gurugram, Manesar, and Faridabad.

Rain is also expected in Ballabhgarh, Rohtak, (Haryana) Bulandshahar, Hapur, Pilakhuwa, Garhmuktesar, Sikandra Rao, Hathras , Jattari, Khair, Aligarh, Gabhana, Attarauli (UP), Bhiwari (Rajasthan) during next 2 hours.
