Rajasthan: 9 people including groom dead after car falls in Kota’s Chambal river

Nine people, including a groom, were killed after their car fell from a lower bridge into the Chambal river in Rajasthan’s Kota on Sunday, 20 February.

While the groom was travelling with his friends and cousins in the SUV, other members of the wedding procession were in a bus which took the main bridge.

The wedding procession was from Choth Ka Barwada in Sawai Madhopur and on way to Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh.

Seven bodies were first pulled out of the car, which had plunged nearly eight feet into the water. The remaining two bodies were recovered later, a police official told NDTV.

Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot expressed condolences and tweeted, “The death of 9 people including the groom of a wedding procession after their car fell into the Chambal river is very sad and unfortunate. I have enquired the collector about the incident. My deepest sympathies are with the bereaved family. May God give them strength to bear this loss. May the soul of the departed rest in peace”.
