Superstar Rajinikanth has been conferred with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award this year. Union Minister Prakash Javadekar announced the same today, April 1.
Rajinikanth made his debut in 1975 with K Balachander's Apoorva Ragangal also he has completed over 45 years in Kollywood.
"Happy to announce Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2019 to one of the greatest actors in history of Indian cinema Rajnikant ji. His contribution as actor, producer and screenwriter has been iconic," Javadekar tweeted.
The prime minister also tweeted, "it is a matter of immense joy that Thalaiva has been conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award".
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth said, "My heartfelt thanks to the government of India, respected & dearest Narendra Modi, Prakash Javadekar & jury for conferring upon me the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award I sincerely dedicate it to all those who have been a part of my journey. Thanks to the almighty."
