An advanced laser therapy facility for vitiligo has been opened at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Jharkhand's Ranchi. The venture by one of the leading government hospitals in the state aims to change the existing clinical picture of patients suffering from vitiligo, a condition that causes the formation of white patches in various parts of the body.

It has implemented this therapy in the dermatology department of the hospital. The given development will not only make Ranchi the hub of advanced dermatological care but also affirm the position of RIMS as a medical excellence centre in the region.

Hope and Healing: A Game-Changer for Vitiligo Patients

Vitiligo does not tend to endanger life; still, those affected by the disorder usually suffer serious psychological and social complications that are caused by the appearance of visible depigmentation. Traditional treatments, such as topical ointments and ultraviolet light therapy, have produced poor and inconsistent results for sufferers. In comparison, however, laser technology is a new technology introduced at RIMS, and it has several benefits as follows:

  • Faster recovery of pigmentation;
  • Increased accuracy of targeting the diseased areas;
  • A low number of side effects;
  • Proper handling of sensitive parts of the body, like the face and hands.

Physicians believe that patients who have suffered poor medical care will find tangible or positive improvement and emotional relief from this innovation.

RIMS Leads the Way in Public Healthcare Innovation

The first use of this laser therapy in RIMS also makes the institution the first government medical college in Jharkhand to do the high-tech dermatological treatment. The initiative, besides enhancing the quality of care provided in the state public hospitals, provides precedence on the accessibility of specialised and accessible medical services across the state.

All in all, the policy of inclusivity in medicine followed by RIMS can be described in terms of the company introducing modern technological solutions to the patient audience that would not have otherwise had access to a specific set of private care.
