RIP Kalyan Singh: BJP leader to laid to rest today

New Delhi: The last rites of veteran BJP leader Kalyan Singh will be performed on Monday at Rajghat in the Narora district of Bulandshahr district. The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister will be laid to rest with full state honours. His mortal remains will be taken to Rajghat today. Many BJP leaders and chief ministers are expected to attend the last journey of the late Hindutva icon. 

Kalyan Singh had died at the age of 89 on Saturday due to multiple organ failure and sepsis. The politician was admitted to the hospital on July 4. UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, BJP chief JP Nadda and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh among others had visited Kalyan Singh in hospital. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday landed in Lucknow to pay his last respects to the late BJP leader. “We have lost a capable leader. We should make maximum efforts by taking his values and resolutions to compensate for the void he has left. We should leave no stone unturned in fulfilling his dreams. I pray to Lord Ram to give place to the departed soul at his feet and give strength to the bereaved family members to bear the loss,” PM Modi said. 

UP is observing three-day state mourning upon the passing away of Kalyan Singh. Additional Chief Secretary Awinash Awasthi had earlier said that the people will be able to pay last respect at the stadium on Monday. 

“The mortal remains of Singh will be brought to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly at 11 am on Sunday and will be shifted to the BJP Office at 12.30 pm where it will be kept till 2:30 pm for people to pay their last respects. After that, the mortal remains will be taken to Aligarh where people will be able to pay last respects at a stadium. From there mortal remains will be taken to Atrauli. He will be cremated on Monday at banks of river Ganga in Narora,” Additional Chief Secretary of the state Home Department Awanish Awasthi had informed earlier.
